Description: Marilyn Arsem's performance, U.S. Domestic Policy II, was a systematic act of destruction performed the day after the Republican midterm election sweep. Sitting by a window overlooking the city, Arsem methodically crushed a tableful of fresh, ripe fruit—plums, oranges, kiwi, and peppers—first with a hammer, then with her bare hands, as the sound of circling helicopters provided an ominous soundtrack. After sweeping the crushed detritus to the floor, she concluded the work by slowly inching a tall glass of water across the table's edge until it finally crashed to the floor.
